29/12/2014 - Whilst in hospital - post by Huipie Hannekom :-
This made my day...handed over the chips and he reached out wanted it to be opened and then to my surprise got a chip and started nibbling away while playing on the ipad...you go Jason love.
Scrambled egg, some raw onion, a whole lot of popcorn, half a piece of pizza and a bowl of ice cream. A good days snacking. Jason's on the journey to eat and has turned the corner.
On our promenade beach walk this afternoon a homeless man asked me why Jason was so skinny. Normally something like this upsets me but my response to him was "He doesn't eat, he has a feeding tube but he is learning to eat". His response to me was "I was also skinny when I was his age". Yes our little man is skinny but shu look how far he has come and how well he is doing . Very proud mommy indeed!!
Monthly dietitian appointment: We had our dietitian appointment today. A weight loss of 300 grams unfortunately but I am not too fazed considering Jason is doing so well with his eating. On the way home I stopped at the Caltex garage Steers and brought him a soft serve ice cream which he ate the whole way home. He had quite a lot of spoons so I am a happy mom.
Jason is on a roll. Bruce and I just watched in amazement...
He went to the fridge, took out my boiled egg still with the shell on (leftover from lunch) and started cracking it on the kitchen counter. I showed him how to take the shell off and put it in a bowl for him. He took the bowl over to the couch where he was sitting and started eating.
Bruce and myself were sitting outside on the veranda and we watched him eat the WHOLE egg!!!! Amazing!
Jason has learned to trust eggs and popcorn. He is eating eggs on a daily basis now as well as popcorn. Boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, fried eggs. I'm in the habit of making boiled eggs for myself for work as a snack and I make extras for Jason and leave them in the fridge door. When he wants one he finds them. If there are none he asks for them.
He has just eaten THREE boiled eggs - one after the other!! Unbelievable .
Proof - all in Jason's time!!!
We've had no power at home since 14:30. So we ordered pizza. Jason has always shown a keen interest in pizza but it has always been a verbal interest rather than an eating interest. Tonight the four of us - Bruce, myself, Jason and Nicole sat on the couch in the dark and ate pizza together. I'm still in shock as Jason ate TWO pieces, crust and all.
I just sat here in total awe, the tears of joy rolling down my face discretely. I cannot believe it. My son ate pizza like it wa...s totally normal .
Polygam tomorrow. I can't wait to tell Jason's paed all the exciting news!!
Thank you Jesus prayers are being answered!!
