Yesterday we got admitted into hospital. Jason hasn't been well for about 5 weeks now. I know this because we have had 2 polygam admissions and the next one is due this week coming. The last polygam his CRP levels (infection levels) were 6 - less than 5 is normal. Not too bad but he has been very snotty, coughing and the odd fevers. The polygam before that they picked up Rhinovirus and Strep Pneumonia which are two horrible ones. He was treated with antibiotics for both of these and after the last dose finished he still wasn't right. He started with fevers again, very snotty, very dry mouth, dehydrated, gagging and battling to feed him. We eventually decided it was better to get him admitted, do all the necessary tests and see what he has rather than trying again to treat him at home. He also needed a drip for hydration.
I must say when he got admitted he wasn't too bad but I know what he was like that morning and the day before. When the paed saw him of course he looked ok. We did a chest xray, sinus xray and abdominal xray. Also his usual bloods and a blood culture. The sinus xray shows maxillary and frontal sinuses are quite congested, his chest shows bronchitis and the abdominal xray shows faecal loading of the colon and the tummy is very distended. The physio also suctioned his nose and those results show adenovirus. I was quire surprised by this because usually adenovirus has diarrhea but he has faecal loading. I did research this and adenovirus affects the sinuses, chest, stomach, eyes etc. It depends where it is. We have given him an enema this morning for the faecal loading and some pegicol later but still not much movement yet. Knowing my luck I will be up all night with him. I must have the same thing because I am very chesty, coughing up phlegm and my throat is very sore and irritated. I have to keep coughing to clear my throat. I will see to myself tomorrow when the doctors are open.
