The past few days we have still been battling with gagging and vomiting. On Saturday he woke up at 4am gagging and vomiting. He gagged and vomited non stop from 4am until 9am. He was really sick until he eventually passed out from sheer exhaustion. He slept from 9am until 3pm (basically the whole day). I didn't give him any milk while he slept, just water to keep him hydrated. The whole day on Saturday I just gave water and waited for his night feed. On Sunday he woke up coughing but seemed ok. We decided to just give his tummy a full days break and only gave him water again. Sunday night he had 700mls Nutrini via the pump and this morning he woke up fine. He wouldn't take his milk though so I just left him and gave him 200mls water instead. I didn't want to push him and let him start gagging and vomiting before school and work.
Today at school he gave us a huge surprise. Jeanette his teacher has been really fantastic with trying new things and helping out with his milk feeds. With the hard time we have been having with the gagging and vomiting she decided to give him another try with "solids" - he had a little on Friday with a HUGE fight (the two of them) and today he allowed Jeanette to give him a 125ml bottle of stage 2 purity. A WHOLE bottle!! I discussed this with Jeanette this morning and told her I was happy for her to try whatever she wishes. She said that she has to be very firm with him if he gags and the two of them do fight but she is determined to help and get Jason eating. Well it worked so we will see how Jason progresses with this. I managed to give him two bottles of milk (460mls) this afternoon so his oral intake today was 1225mls (640mls water, 460mls paediasure and 125mls purity). I am very pleased.
Tonight I had a bit of gagging during his milk but I was quite firm with him and got him to stop. Jeanette feels that sometimes he puts the gagging and vomiting on - makes himself gag. I do tend to agree a little but I don't see why after SO long he would make himself sick and the way he has been vomiting has been really bad. Why would he wake up at 4am and vomit for 5 hours? Anyway we will sort it out. When I was at therapy with Jason I was chatting to another mom and she mentioned that her son also had a tummy bug for a few days. He was vomiting and complaining that his tummy was sore but no runny tummy. So this made me think that maybe he does have a bug. I don't know but hopefully it will or has passed!!
