Had a little set back this weekend with the drinking out the cup and volumes. Yesterday we went to my folks for the day. Jason wasn't drinking out the cup like he normally does. He took a few sips here and there but nothing like he did during the week. We thought it was the change in routine and not being home. He had a great day swimming and was his happy excited self. BUT on the way home he started gagging a bit and there was lots of mucous and "froth" and "foam" in his mouth. I thought this was strange as he has been fine for ages and he hadn't had milk for 3 hours. Anyway when we got home and I put him to bed I felt his body was hot. When I checked his temperature he had a fever of 38.4. I gave him some ponado and he slept pretty well. I checked on him quite a bit during the night and the fever wasn't settling so I gave him more ponado.
When he woke up this morning his fever was gone and he was his happy self again. BUT still wouldn't drink out the cup. Luckily he has accepted the syringe so all his fluids he is getting are still orally just not as much as he normally has. Yesterday he had 910mls (690mls paediasure and 220mls water) and today he has had 820mls (540mls paediasure orally, 120mls water orally and 160mls nutrini via peg while asleep). We seem to have found the reason for the fevers last night. Today he has had gastro. His tummy sounds like a cement mixer and he has a VERY runny tummy. Hopefully this isn't something more serious like rotavirus or salmonella and just a tummy bug. Hopefully it will pass by tomorrow as well!!
So a bit of a set back but I am very proud that despite not feeling nice he is still taking fluids orally. Poor little nunu! Hopefully this will pass soon so that we can get back to our normal eating and drinking routine.
