Today we had a good day eating and drinking. We seem to be managing 4 x 125mls purity (pureed food) during the day. I am still trying to master the art of getting the spoon in the tiny space that Jason is giving me and Jason is still trying to master the art of opening wider. A bottle takes about half an hour to finish - it would be faster if he opened wider but hey he is eating and that's great. Whether it takes 15 minutes or 2 hours, it is being eaten with a spoon and going down.
When I did my shopping today a silly comment made me so sensitive and upset. The lady at the till said to me "is that purity for him" pointing at Jason. So I said "yes it is, he eats purity" and she said "How ma'am he's a big boy now". My response was just that he doesn't eat - knowing she had no idea what I was talking about anyway! If only she knew how proud I am of my little man and how proud I am that yes he is eating purity. It's FANTASTIC. I know it's silly but it did make me think for goodness sake he is turning 5 this year and eating stage 2 purity. BUT geepers two weeks ago he wasn't even taking a spoon so I will take purity over nothing any day!! I am extremely proud of my little man. Baby steps, he is only starting to learn how to eat and it's going to take time but we will progress from smooth foods to lumpy to the foods we are eating for dinner.
Our children that have never eaten properly in their lives have to go through the stages. They have to learn from scratch like babies how to drink, how to suck, how to swallow, how to chew just like any new born baby has to go through the stages, so do they. They haven't learnt how to eat. Jason stopped eating at the age of 6 months old when he was on stage 1 purity and he wasn't even finishing those bottles then. So we can't expect them to suddenly start eating meals, sweets and snacks like other kids do. Those kids had to go through those stages as well from babies and so will our children whether they are 3, 5 or 7 years old. Just because they are big doesn't mean that they know how it's done.
It is fantastic watching my little man progressing with his eating and drinking. Each "meal" he finishes is an accomplishment for him and for me and both of us are very proud and excited when he does finish a "meal". He is SO cleaver indeed!!
