Today went very well with Jason's oral intake. He has had 1460mls orally (1120mls paediasure and 340mls water). I am hoping we can keep this rate up if not increase it a little. Tonight his night feeds are down to 500mls.
I must admit I am starting to get nervous about the reduction in night feeds but we really must get Jason tube weaned and 100% eating during the day. I guess it's a normal feeling for a mom and dad that has fed their child with a feeding tube for 3 and a half years day and night! You tend to become the one in control of their "eating" habits, their weight gain or loss, their nutritional intake. All responsibility is yours and now we have to learn to trust Jason and I guess back off a little. Look I am no expert but I have learnt quite a lot over these years of what formulas work, how to add calories etc. So I plan on putting these things into practise if his weight isn't retained. Hopefully his weight will continue to increase if not stay the same. Listen to me worrying about weight already and we haven't even got to a stage where the night feeds have stopped!!
Tonight I "caught" Jason brushing his own teeth. What a HUGE surprise for a child that never use to allow teeth brushing! Was so cute. He had disappeared and when I found him there he was in the bathroom brushing away with his tooth brush. I think he was actually trying to get the carrot out of his teeth LOL. He knows that is how I have managed to get food out of his mouth in the past without him biting my fingers off!!
Today was the first day we had occupational therapy and speech therapy on the same day one after the other and he managed absolutely fine. So I am very pleased that keeps another afternoon free. Both therapists were pleased with him and he did really well.
