You will notice that I haven't updated day 37. The reason being is today being day 38 was the most unbelievable day and to be honest I am so excited that I cannot even remember what happened yesterday!!
Today was a REALLY great day. Jason has finally turned the corner and we can finally see the light at the end of the tunnell. In total so far he has had 855mls of fluids (705mls orally and 150mls via the tube while asleep). The 705mls orally was made up of 410mls paediasure, 60mls juice and 235mls water. Not only that, when I was giving him his afternoon paediasure via the syringe in his mouth, when I got to 140mls I thought ok that's enough (not knowing how much his tummy can take) and the balance left was 40mls which I put in his sippy cup and I handed the cup to him thinking he would toss it aside or blow bubbles. Well I nearly fell off the couch he drank the whole 40mls paediasure out of the CUP all by himself!! AND I also gave him some water in the cup tonight and he drank 25mls by himself as well. Then at dinner time (remember he had just had paediasure at 18:15) - well at dinner time at 20:00 he sat with Bruce and myself at the table with his plate of food which was baby potatoes mashed up and gem squash and he sat and ATE with us all by himself with a spoon! Put mash and gem in his mouth spoon after spoon and swallowed. Not huge amounts, tiny spoons but he was loving it.
So we are just amazed he drank 65mls fluid out of a cup and ate at the dinner table. Jason has had his FIRST ever meal with us as a family. Unbelievable.
The amount of fluids he is taking orally is also amazing on it's own. When we were tube feeding Jason during the day we were managing about 1 - 1.2 litres before bed time and we are not far from that.
It has taken us 4 years to see our son drinking and eating and he did both in one day!
I did manage to capture the moments for you guys as well. Jason obviously loves the camera and enjoyed posing for the pictures! The cup - yes that was the last bit of paediasure.
So bugger day 37, who cares what happened yesterday. I am just too happy what happened today : ).
