A wonderful positive day today. I am VERY pleased with the progress we had today.
Last night I was feeling quite down and worried about Jason, his progress and his weight. I always say prayers with Jason in the evenings and last night I didn't really know WHAT to pray. I basically said "Lord if you are listening to me, you know what I am feeling, you know what we want and need from you, just hear my prayer and show me the way". Well this morning I said my morning prayer and before I picked up my "Faith for Daily Living" I said "right God talk to me". The reading was perfect, just for me! The heading was "In God's Hands" and it was all about your current situation and how God is with us every step of the way and will be through the remaining years of our life. Then I closed the book and right on the front cover it said "Stay with God! Take heart. Don't quit (psalm 27:14)". So really that just gave me confirmation that God is with us every step of the way, we are doing the right thing for Jason and we must not quit and keep going!!
I also had quite a few chats last night and today with the other moms that had tube fed children and have been to Graz and been through net coaching as well. All three of them gave me confirmation that we are doing great and we must keep persevering. It has taken all of them a long time to get where they are today but all three boys are tube free and eating. They have all lost a lot of weight but they don't have a feeding tube any longer and are eating and drinking! Thank you Rachel (UK), Joanne (South Africa) and Bronwyn (South Africa). You all gave me the confirmation that I needed!!
Jason was in such good spirits today. At school Jeanette painted such a lovely South African flag on his face which he absolutely loved!! We went shopping for ice cream and everyone showed him such attention and he was loving it!
The ice cream is still going down really well. Today I was so pleased, I continued to persevere with the syringe in his mouth, a few mls at a time and in total today he "drank" and "swallowed" 90mls of milk!!! How fantastic is that??? I am over the moon! Tonight was pizza for supper and Jason loves "playing" with the pizza and the box. Tonight he sat with me while I ate my pizza poking the pizza with the fork and putting the fork (with a little tomato) into his mouth and tasting the taste of the pizza. Today he made regular trips to the cupboard and brought out the ice cream cones and also kept opening the fridge saying "milk". Both huge positive signs that he is showing us what he wants and WOW he wants food and drinks of all things!!
So our plan of action is to see whether we can change Jasons formula from Nutrini Peptisorb (1kcal per ml) to another formula that is 1.5kcal per ml. This will allow us to keep his night feeds at 800mls but will make a huge difference in calories. Going from 800 cals to 1200 cals and that will really help with his weight. We just have to make sure that it agrees with him because there are no semi elemental feeds on the market that are 1.5kcal. So we will be changing from a semi elemental formula to a fortified formula. The only way to know is by trying. Jason was on a fortified formula (1.5kcal per ml) and did very well with weight gain but the gagging and vomiting got worse so we changed back to Nutrini Peptisorb. Now that there is no gagging and vomiting we could try and see whether he does fine with a change or not.
I see we had 240 visitors to our website yesterday. That is fantastic. So nice to know that there are so many people following. I wonder why the sudden increase in visitors? I hope that I too can help families that are going through a wean and hopefully this website gives them ideas and the understanding and direction to take with their wean for their kids. Even if I help one or two families I am happy!!
So a great day had by all and we are very pleased and very proud of our little man!!
