Well today wasn’t as successful as yesterday I am afraid. We are going to get good days and bad days of course, just would be nicer to have LOADS of good days and no bad days. Mind you I shouldn’t say it was a bad day, we still had progress, we are still on the program and we are still moving forward. Baby steps of course.
This morning at breakfast I always have my cereal (all bran for my tummy) with milk and honey and to our amazement without saying a thing to Jason he came and sat next to me so I put my cereal bowl in front of him and he took two teaspoons of cereal into his mouth. So that was fantastic to see. We all just ignore him as much as we are bouncing up and down inside.
At 12:30 play picnic time we had a disastrous play picnic!! After yesterdays play picnic we were all very hopeful and looking forward to watching him eat but unfortunately today was not the day. Today Jason decided to show us that he is not eating. He threw a huge tantrum, kicking and crying and did not want to partake in play picnic. We did make him sit with us and watch us eat - thinking that he mustn’t think that he can cry and that’s the end of play picnic. Anyway it was tough watching him so upset and crying like that but we have seen it all before in Graz. He did it at one play picnic in Graz and we had a few sessions with Eva where he let out all his frustration as well. The professor did warn us about this and said it’s good for him to act out and get rid of all his frustration - it’s actually therapeutic for him. Not so therapeutic for us but anyway we are going to have more of these "acting outs" so I guess we have to get use to it. I just need to find out whether we did the right thing by making him stay during the half hour play picnic or not?? We will see what Graz advise us. After letting out all that frustration he did have a nice long nap and when he woke up he was as happy as can be!
This evening during supper we all just ignored him "neglect" and went about eating our dinner. Jason was being ignored and became curious so came to see what was happening at the table. He sat there for about 5 seconds and disappeared. Grandpa wanted some ice cream for dessert so after granny dished up for Grandpa she told Jason to "give ice cream to grandpa" and he took the bowl and carried it over to grandpa. Then granny dished up a bowl for Jason and said to him "that’s for Jason". He tried giving me the bowl and I said no "that’s for Jason". He put the bowl down at his place and sat watching grandpa eat and then decided to try his ice cream as well. Took one spoon, made a noise like he was enjoying it but that was it! Look at least it was something!!
So all in all the day did end off well, we did have some interest and any interest is a step forward in my eyes!
Tonight we are down to 350mls milk. We have discussed the volume with Graz and decided to reduce by 50mls per night just to give him a bit more time in order to experiment with food and tastes before he is down to nothing.
So tomorrow is another day and we hope and pray that tomorrow will be a better eating day!!!
