Well after last night I have the answer. Monday night he had a very runny tummy and was very gaggy so I kept him off school. His chronic diarrhoea has been worse lately but with him it's hard to tell really. Yesterday (Monday) I had to give him lots of water and small regular feeds. I managed a yoghurt in the morning and throughout the day managed small feeds of 100mls paediasure. Feeds do tend to make his tummy worse but he needed something. Last night oh boy what a rough night for him and us. He had terrible diarrhoea with lots of stomach noises and gagging. I had to change his clothes and bedding 3 times in the early hours of this morning. This is obviously a bug. The kids at Nicole's school including Nicole had it last week and this is obviously what Jason has except with his gut issues and being immunodeficient he has extreme cases and doesn't get over it easily. This morning I was thinking along the lines of rotavirus but today it has calmed down a bit. We are obviously at home as I need to watch him and get some fluids in to avoid dehydration and obviously don't want to infect the other kids at Jason's little school.
In a way I am pleased that this is a bug and not his cyclic vomiting syndrome as I was concerned that we were headed in that direction again where the medication was really helping him. So that is a bonus. Unfortunately a bad February financially for us as I am missing work and Jason is missing school and that important therapy he needs. He has missed 3 full days now and two half days :-(. I also had to postpone the endocrinologist appointment again and I was really looking forward to that appointment to see where we are headed in the future and whether Jason is going to need hormone treatment. When I called to postpone the doctor's secretary very rudely pointed out to me that this was the second time we are "cancelling". It's amazing how some people can just get you at the wrong moment and really bring you down. I am feeling down as it is with all the stress and pressure of Jason being ill and then I get this lady that knows absolutely nothing about our situation giving me a hard time for "cancelling" when I am not cancelling at all, I am postponing. I don't know what she expected me to say but I kindly pointed out to her that I would bring Jason to see the doctor with his tummy bug/rotavirus and infect them all if that's what she prefers. I am certainly not going to waste R1,600 to take Jason as sick as he is with diarrhoea and retching. It would be a waste of money, the doctors time and mine and we would get nowhere with trying to help Jason. So hopefully when I make the next appointment we get to actually make the appointment. Frustrating, very frustrating.
Hopefully our little man will be on the mend soon and back to school and work for me. We had a good run with illnesses in December and January and hopefully this one is just a minor bump and we will be back to normal soon.
