Our little man is doing so well - the progress he is making is amazing. Every day I see changes in him that amazes me. He is growing up and is no longer my baby. He has taken to his big brother roll beautifully and really grown up and is blossoming in front of our eyes. His speech has improved - we are noticing some lovely words now whereas not so long ago we couldn't understand what he was saying which was very frustrating for him and for us. At least now we are able to make out what he is saying. For example if he wants to go outside he shouts outside or keys. He calls his sister baby or Nicole now, his food vocabulary is getting better and better and he just comes out with these words that we never knew he could say. So great progress with his speech.
Eating wise we are still I would say "stuck" in a place where we can't get past him eating like a bird or syringing him. It is actually easier to use the syringe than to sit there for what feels like hours trying to feed him a small amount of custard or potato or whatever we are giving him. He opens like a little bird. Drinking is also the same, he will drink out of his sippy cup or sports bottle but it's just sips and if we want him to actually drink say a glass of water or milk we have to syringe it. Look being stuck isn't too bad considering six months ago he wouldn't allow a thing in his mouth - food or drinks! So we are SO lucky that we have progressed the way we have. He now allows us to feed him a variety of food. Yesterday I was SO pleased he allowed me to feed him (with a syringe) half an avo. I did start with the spoon as he allows that but I would have been there all day with the avo if I hadn't syringed it. I am having a problem with calories as MOST things aggravate the chronic diarrhoea and cause gagging. For example silly me added about 30mls of cream to his pediasure this morning before school and that made him violently ill - gagging, sweating and wanting to vomit! So there goes the idea of adding creams to his formula or soups!! Calories are a big problem and this is the reason I can't get rid of the night tube feeding! One day!
His favourite food is still onion but we have progressed with other foods that he will try - tomatoes and green pepper are two that go hand in hand with onion! Yesterday at Spar, one of the items I brought was a green pepper for my dinner. Well Jason got hold of that green pepper and he wouldn't let that out of his sight. He sat in the trolley hanging onto it saying "green pepper". When the teller tried to "steal" his green pepper he was most upset and she had to quickly give it back after she had scanned it through the scanner! His birthday party at school he didn't try any cake, food or sweets but he had fun and that's the main thing!! Ok cake would have been the "icing on the cake" for me but he enjoyed his party and that's all that matters! Maybe next year!!
I am really enjoying the interaction between Jason and Nicole (his almost 3 month old sister). The two of them are so cute together - eyeing each other out. Nicole sits with us while I feed Jason and she sits there moaning for me to give her some - he he! She is a little healthy fatty in my eyes - I am not use to having such a healthy little baby! It's been great for me having a "normal" child, watching her down her bottles and just being healthy! Thank goodness because I seriously don't think I would have coped with a sickly baby as well. She is so easy going, just eats, sleeps and poops. Jason adores her and has really grown up and taken his big brother role very seriously.
