Being Jason's birthday, I was rather bummed knowing that he would spend his 5th birthday in hospital, but for Jason what an appropriate place to spend your birthday!! This week polygam was due and we had booked for it to take place on Thursday but unfortunately the isolation room that we had booked needed to be used in an emergency and we lost our room. Bruce and I are NOT prepared to take any chances with Jason in a general ward and Dr. P agreed that with all the sicknesses around it wasn't a good idea so we decided to wait for one to become available. I just knew that Friday, his birthday would be the day - typical!!
It's funny how things work out though. Jason had an absolute ball. He is so use to going to hospital that it doesn't even bother him anymore. He just takes it in his stride and gets on with it. Dad and Jason went off to hospital armed with his aeroplane (present from us), his dvds, books and a birthday cake to share with Dr. P and the nurses. He was thoroughly spoilt, loved all the attention that he was getting and even got presents from his paed, Dr. P!! Bruce spent the morning with him and I spent the afternoon while we took turns with Nicole at home. The day went very smoothly and we are done with polygam for another 3 weeks! When he got home we had another present waiting for him - a Thomas the Tank Engine. One that works with a whistle. Jason has to blow the whistle and Thomas moves forward, blow again and he stops, blow twice and he reverses. An absolute hit and good therapy as well!!! Boy did we battle to get him to go to bed, he could have played all night!
I can honestly say that this was the best birthday Jason has ever had. I have not seen my son smile, giggle and squeal with delight so much in one day. He was the happiest I have ever seen him and how crazy is that being attached to a drip all day?? Oh my baby boy he is such an amazing child! Dr P. arrived at the same time I arrived armed with a bag full of presents for Jason that he had brought himself! He was spoilt rotten. In the late afternoon when it was time for us to leave Dr P. said to Jason "give me a hug". Jason ran into his arms, he picked Jason up, gave him such a big love and while holding Jason tightly he said to me "this little boy has come such a long way". So special - to have such an amazing paediatrician looking after our little boy. Just another angel sent our way!
Thank you to everyone for the phone calls, smses and facebook messages. You all made our day really special!
