This morning we had a thumbs up until we tried a pediasure. The picture is what happened to him after 40mls of pediasure. And for those that are thinking it - no it is not the pediasure, it is not the feeds, it is whatever is hitting his tummy that is causing these reactions. We have to remember that he has two bad bacteria in his tummy that he's getting over plus fecal loading so his tummy is going to be very sensitive and sore. He's been in a lot of pain and he has been very uncomfortable. We haven't seen Jason like this in a long time. Food is making him sick and uncomfortable no matter what it is.
So today has been pretty much letting his tummy rest but at the same time trying to get something in him. He seems to be tolerating yoghurt the best at the moment. We tried pureed mash, chicken and veg at lunch which he ate half reluctantly. We also managed 3 yoghurts today so a lot better than the previous days. But each time we have the same reaction - man down, blotchy face and chest, gagging and in pain and the only way to feel better is to sleep.
He did play with his iPad today for about 20 minutes so that's a first since Sunday. Bruce brought him a nerf gun to cheer him up but the nerf gun didn't even come out the plastic. He loves nerf guns! So we have seen some positives, some light, some hope that he's getting better and has turned the corner.
The paed came to tell me that the nasal culture grew a bacteria called Haemophilus Influenzae which causes various illnesses from mild - ear infection, cellulitis, fever, sore throat, pneumonia, arthritis to more severe illnesses like meningitis.
Luckily we started the augmentum on Monday so this will cover that as well 🙈. The augmentum is covering the E. Coli and H Influenzae and the Flagyl will cover the C. Diff. Where Jason got these from who knows but they're all really horrible infections and for him to have 3 - I mean seriously 😭.
His drip infiltrated tonight. The paed said to leave it because we may go home tomorrow but we weren't comfortable with him not having IV fluids. His tummy isn't great, old matter is still coming out from the backlog and his tummy is mucousy and runny from the other two bacteria and antibiotics. So we asked for the drip to be re-sited. We also prefer his antibiotic to be given IV because he doesn't absorb meds great. I don't know if we will go home tomorrow. Obviously we would love to but if he's not well I'm not leaving just out of a want to be home. He needs to be okay without a drip!
I'm pleased we managed some food in his tummy today even if it wasn't a lot. It was something at least. He did have fevers today but not too bad. He is drinking water so that's good. Baby steps, one day at a time - improvement!
