This afternoon we started feeds via the peg at 60mls an hour but with that his
temperature seemed to increase so we had to reduce to 40mls an hour to avoid the gagging. At least he is now getting some nutrition after not having anything for 48 hours.
We still don’t know what he has but when I saw Dr. P this afternoon he advised me that Jason’s lymphocyte levels were low which indicated a viral infection and with the extremely high fevers he is sure it is a virus. We will not know what virus until we receive the stool test results but we have covered all basis and he is being treated with two antibiotics. How long will we be here in hospital, I am not sure. It depends on what virus he has and also his temperatures need to be gone and he needs to be well hydrated and tolerating feeds.
Shame, Jason’s paed is actually meant to be on leave until the 16th January but he has come in to see to Jason every day. I obviously was worried the whole day about what Jason had and was getting quite anxious to see Dr. P. The poor man was phoning in all the time and checking up on Jason and when he did arrive shame he apologized and said that he was going to come see Jason in the morning but he has caught the virus as well and was not well enough to leave the house!! The night nurse from last night also phoned in this afternoon to say that she wouldn’t make work tonight as she too has caught the virus! Oh dear they are dropping like flies lol. I guess I am immune to Jason’s bugs by now unless they got it from someone else in the ward?? I am sure it was Jason because by 10am Jason was the only patient in the whole pediatric ward and we had three nurses all to ourselves!!
I am missing my little Nicole SO much but daddy is taking good care of her and she is keeping daddy real busy!! Good practice for him and good bonding time for them. Bruce does come to visit us when he can and when we have someone to look after Nicole but we prefer that I stay with Jason and he stays with Nicole as I know exactly what is going on with all the medical issues. Tomorrow my folks are popping in to see us and will go and look after Nicole for a while so that Bruce can spend some time with us and see his little man!
Otherwise that is pretty much our day today. Jason is still asleep at the moment and I hope that we have an easy peaceful night. I could do with a good night’s sleep and of course just want to see Jason get better and rest peacefully!
