We received the second positive result today. Jason also has rhinovirus which is the reason why he is so chesty and having upper respiratory problems. The physio comes twice a day which is helping a lot and if he needs suctioning, she will suction the gunk out his nose. So he has rhinovirus and rotavirus. With Jason having combined primary immunodeficiency, he is prone to catching bacterial, viral and fungal infections and unfortunately his immune system is so low that he gets these often. At least we are getting there and are on the road to recovery. Jason is a superstar and the way he handles these illnesses and hospital stays is nothing but amazing. I am very proud of my little man. He doesn't complain, he just keeps going. Yesterday morning as an example the nurses battled to find a vein, poked him twice and then the doctor came and did his drip. The first vein wasn't flowing great so she did a second drip on the other hand. He now has two drips. One on each hand! At least we have a backup if one stops working and hopefully no more drips. His potassium levels have been low and they have had to include potassium as well. Yesterday his face was quite swollen and this was due to water retention that comes with low potassium levels. He was looking quite plump for a change lol. At least his face has gone down.
So hopefully we will be going home by Wednesday (holding thumbs) and hopefully our life can go back to normal again. Jason has missed a lot of school, his therapies at school as well as his feeding therapy and hasn't been eating. SO we have a lot of catching up to do again. I am missing Bruce and Nicole terribly and I haven't been able to go to work which is money for me. Today I managed to go for about 2 hours. First time I could actually leave Jason alone and I brought some work back to the hospital as well. I have been worried about my work load being tax filing season and provisional payments due. It was nice to feel a little human today at least. Nice to be back at work and nice to know I earned a little bit of money even if it wasn't a full morning, it was something.
Anyway I better get to bed (I mean chair). Tomorrow is another day. I am feeling like I have been camping for two weeks. My poor body not liking sleeping upright in a chair. One good thing I have learnt is falling asleep quickly. I have started to master shutting my eyes and I am no sooner sleeping. Comes with the interrupted sleep of being interrupted all the time whilst in hospital. In for medicine, in for drips, in for checking fevers. Always something and then of course got to love the bin lady that comes in all hours of the night and early morning to empty the bins. Got to love hospitals but we are SO blessed to have such a lovely one on our door step. Our home away from home.
