So anyway we will see where this takes us, it's something that I am willing to investigate. Bruce and myself have been through the Graz in hospital tube wean as well as a net coaching attempt. We know how it works, we did everything by the book but the case with Jason is not whether he can and can't eat, it's not whether he can chew and swallow. We know he can eat and drink, we know he can chew and swallow. His problem is he doesn't want to because he is constantly sick. While I was typing this I had to jump up and stop his feeding pump because he was suddenly gagging badly - now why would he wake up from a sleep and gag. It's not in his head - you don't wake up from a deep sleep and decide to get sick. Yes sometimes I agree that he can gag out of excitement, pressure etc. BUT not always, he wouldn't deliberately make himself sick after tube feeds. Why would he sometimes and others not?? Well that's my motherly gut feel and opinion. I have often had people say to me "let me feed Jason", "will it help if I fed Jason". They are more than welcome to do that, I would be willing to try that even but I know after a day of not eating a thing they will bring him back to us :-).
So the team would like to meet up again in a months time. They want me to keep a gagging and food diary, they would like me to continue to try certain foods and encourage him to eat which is what we always do. We are blessed to have a team willing to sit down together and help where they can. I am confident that they can help a lot of kids. Whether they can help Jason??? Watch this space but I am certainly going to give it a try!!!
