The appointment went well. We went through Jason's whole history and he examined Jason. We discussed the blood results from August last year. The blood results show that his hormones are normal but at Jason's age it wouldn't really pick up anything too much. It's at the age of 12/13 when they hit puberty that the tests would reveal more. After examining Jason and seeing why he needs the urology procedure (to fix the hypospadias and severe... chordee) he advised that he would definitely need testosterone injections which will assist with growth and obviously make the procedure that much easier. We will therefore start the testosterone injections and see the surgeon in order to discuss the procedure and prepare for that. He said after the injections, Jason should be ready for surgery around August.
In his opinion he feels that the kidneys and the urology problems are connected and he feels a syndrome called WT1. There is a blood test to test for this apparently. The immune system and the gastrointestinal problems he doesn't feel are related. The best people to see for this is an immunologist and gastroenterologist in Cape Town (we don't have these in Durban) and the geneticist, well we don't have one in South Africa . He also feels that Jason's symptoms all fall under dysautonomia. As for mitochondrial disease he is not sure.
So a lot to take in, a lot of procedures still to do, a lot of medical expenses in the future, a new syndrome/disorder to process and wonder and a lot of specialists we need to see on the other side of the country. So many people for one little man. As Jason's paed says "Jason is a medical mystery".
One day we will solve this medical mystery but until then we just take things one day at a time and I continue to pray for God's divine intervention in Jason's life and ours.
