As it turns out when seeing Dr. P he advised me that the one culture from 3 weeks ago showed that Jason had an E. coli bacteria. While googling this afternoon about E. coli it was interesting to find that E. coli grows naturally in the human digestive tract. If it stays in the digestive tract, no problem but when
it enters the blood stream, this is when problems happen. I guess this was the
reason for his gagging, diarrhoea and vomiting before our holiday. At least we
managed to get our weeks holiday in that was symptom free!!
Anyway some useless piece of information for you compliments of Jason’s mom! Back to Jason…
Today was hectic with his fevers. When Dr. P examined him his fever was 38.6, his throat was red and inflamed and he was shivering with goosies because of the fever. We have had fevers all day and very high fevers at that. One minute his temp would be 37 and the next minute has shot up to 38/39/40. Give him medication it would take forever to go down, not going below 37.5 and then it starts to climb again and shoots up again. At one stage it got to 40.6. I must admit I was a bit freaked out. I have never had a temp that high before. Thank goodness we were in the right place!! The diarrhoea is also really bad with his stomach is making huge sounds so he definitely has some sort of bug or bacteria. I will not be surprised if it isn’t rotavirus (again) or salmonella (again). The strange thing though this time he isn’t vomiting (touch wood). Normally he has the diarrhoea, gagging and vomiting. These fevers are bizarre though. One minute he is fine the next minute man down. Shame earlier tonight he was sitting up all well and suddenly shouted “where’s dad” so I told him “dad’s at home” then he shouted “where’s Favorite” (our maid) and I said “Favorite is at home”. I was so happy to hear that, I texted Bruce to let him know which made Bruce so happy knowing his little man was feeling better. Not even half an hour later his temp was up, he was shivering and gagging. At least Bruce goes to bed knowing that Jason is ok. I don’t like him to go to sleep worrying about us!
On Tuesday afternoon when I was putting Jason and Nicole in the bath I found a tick on his back by his neck attached to him so he had been bitten. Could this be tick bite fever? I guess we will find out soon enough.
As I sit here J’s temperature is 39.9. He is asleep but moaning in his sleep. He
has had so much medication pumped into him today to try and get his fevers down and sort him out. I don’t like medication at all but it is necessary. My blow up bed is pumped up – quite a workout that was. May need to invest in an electric pump ha ha. I am so use to hospitals as a lot of you reading this are too. It’s got to be one of the worst places to be in but oh so necessary. I often sit here watching the cars and people go bye and wonder to myself when will we get to a stage when we are over all these infections and hospital stays. Our little man has been through so much in his little life and he really deserves a break! 2013 started off with a wafer stick but the next day we were fighting infections. We will NOT let this get the better of us. 2013 is going to be a fantastic year for the Longs.
Tomorrow is another day and Jason could wake up feeling hundreds. Who knows what tomorrow brings. It’s raining outside now, what a beautiful sound to go to sleep to. Let me hit my blow up bed and get some shut eye.
