Our little man is doing so well. It's been a while since my last update I guess I haven't had too much to write about and also been a bit hectic with Jason and Nicole keeping me on my toes.
In my last update I mentioned that we may try a new medication instead of polygam. Well on the 8th August Jason and I went to hospital for the day, our usual 3 week visit and we started the new medication called Octagam. For those of you that don't know, Jason is immunodeficient, his IgG levels are very low making him vulnerable to infection. The only way to improve his "condition" is to get admitted for the day and have polygam or octagam. The other alternative is a bone marrow transplant but we have chosen to go the medication route and hope that his immune system improves in time. Basically the octagam that Jason has is a 300ml liquid solution made from human plasma. It treats patients with immune deficiency conditions and is administered into his vein through an iv for a few hours. The great thing about octagam is we spend a lot less time in hospital. The solution is pre-mixed therefore we don't have to wait for any mixing and bubbles to settle and also the octagam is 300mls whereas the polygam was 600mls. Polygam took minimum of 8 hours to infuse whereas the octagam took us 4 hours! So in the future we are able to get admitted in the afternoon after school and work and spend less time attached to drips. Dr. P was very thorough making sure Jason's vitals were taken every half an hour just in case he had a reaction to the new medication. Well everything went well and we are very pleased that this will solve some lengthy hospital days!!
Therapy is going really well we are definitely noticing a difference with Jason having the extra therapy. His speech, vocabulary and pronunciation has really improved. We are noticing new words and even two word sentences now!! He is becoming quite the little monkey at OT getting more adventurous and brave swinging on all the different swings and ropes and climbing on all the different equipment. Very impressive my brave little man.
Thanks to all my friends and all of you for following my blog and for all your support. It is really fantastic posting my updates, pictures and facbook posts and everyone cheers with me. It really makes me so blessed to have all of you in my life!
