The blood results shows that he has a bacterial infection and a yeast infection - positive for gram negative bacilli and yeast. We just don't know the specific name yet as we are waiting for the blood culture results which can take a few days. Hopefully tomorrow we will know. What I have read is under this particular bacteria is E Coli, Salmonella, H Pylori so I am guessing he has one of these which he has had these many times before.
The antibiotic I really hope will kick in tomorrow - from experience with Jason, we usually see improvements from day 3 onwards. The antibiotic dose was increased this morning and an antifungal medication was started as well.
We haven't been able to feed him a thing the last two days. Last feed was Sunday night because he has been so nauseous that nothing could go near his mouth or even feed via the tube. Even water was a huge battle today. His lips are so dry that a layer of skin has peeled off.
We are waiting to see the wound care specialist in order for her to have a look at Jason's peg site to see how we can help that. It has been oozing quite a bit and really nasty looking. When I took it out on Sunday to check it, there was a lot of blood in the actual hole and it looked meaty which is not normal. Hopefully the antibiotic will help this as well.
So not too much to report apart from a really tough day for us. I am exhausted tonight but can't sleep - if that even makes sense. I guess I am in mommy survival mode at the moment. All I care about is Jason getting better and seeing him smile and happy again. He doesn't even want to play on his ipad, doesn't want to watch tv, doesn't want to play on his play station. It's terrible. I can't wait for him to nag me for a new play station game which he does whenever we are admitted for polygam.
He eventually fell asleep at about 7:30pm thanks to the vallegan (which is a premed). I have started pediasure tonight at 30mls an hour and pray that this stays in him and he can get some nutrition tonight and hopefully a good night rest.
Please say a little prayer for Jason's healing tonight. We really need to get some food in him before he starts losing more weight. Always a concern for us.
