Jason has not been well. He has been having high fevers since Friday night, nausea, gagging and dehydrated. Hopefully nothing serious and a short stay.

Our last dentist appointment for Jason. Such a good dental patient but what an amazing dentist. I got to see the last tooth he was filing. The hole wasn't that big but 1/3rd the size. Some drilling was done and the tooth filled. He had 4 decayed teeth causing cavities. Done and dusted 👏👍.
We had our 4th visit to the dentist today. Jason's 3rd filling done and one more to go. He's been amazing with these dentist visits and even been excited to go for his appointments.
The dentist and their rooms have been amazing with him ❤😊. Today Jase chose to do some tactile play before movement. He loved the slimey playdough and enjoyed pulling the stickeez out with his left hand. Stickeez are great for developing his tripod grip strength. I also encouraged imaginative play in this game, asking him to name the stickeez, and talking to them. I’ll send you a recipe for Playdough to maybe make at home. It’s such a nice activity for Jase to do for a life skills activity (following the steps to make something in the kitchen) and to have a fine motor activity afterwards.

Jase had a lovely session of gross motor play paired with imaginative play. I guided and encouraged him to pretend that two items of equipment were animals and he was able to name them. Afterwards, we drew a picture of Ben the Bunny (from the game) on a whiteboard together. So today we returned to the dentist for Jason's first of 4 fillings. The dentist took photos of the 4 teeth that need attending to - some big holes in those 😲. Not good condition but I keep reminding myself that it's not our fault. Jason had such oral tactile defensiveness that he wouldn't allow anything near his mouth for years including teeth brushing!!
Anyway that corner has been turned. He sat for half an hour with a gum guard opening his mouth, a dentist with a mirror and a drill, a dental assistant with a suction device and 3 faces staring at him. His gum was numbed then injected with a big needle then his tooth was drilled then filled then dried with another device all while Jase and I gave each other thumbs up throughout the procedure 😁. Braver than me my boy!! He made mommy so proud!! One done 3 more to go!!!
We watched this story with great interest. Aaron's folks have done the genetic testing that we would like to have done for Jason to properly diagnose his immune deficiency. I have met Monica Esser the immunologist at a conference but she is in Cape Town and a trip to her means air tickets and consult fees. We would like to do the genetic testing. I believe the cost for the genetic test is approximately R17,000.00 according to Jason's doctors but his paed feels that this will definitely benefit Jason to have him diagnosed which will direct his doctors in the right direction with symptoms and treatment.
Aaron's case is obviously more severe than Jason and they don't know whether the inability to tolerate food is related to the type of immune deficiency he has. This highlights the importance of registering as a bone marrow donor. Bless this little boy and his family ❤.

If you would like to assist us with having the genetic testing done this will help Jason hugely. We do have his trust bank account still open. The funds are low although we have about 4 people that donate monthly towards Jason's medical bills and treatment.
