So how did today go?? He he - well I am seeing progress and changes that’s for sure and a whole lot of stubbornness from our little man!!
Yesterday I was using a spray bottle to spray water into his mouth just to wet his mouth and encourage swallowing. Graz said it was fine to do this. So this morning I was busy doing stuff around the house and when I got into the lounge there was Jason with the spray bottle in hand spraying his own mouth!! So I watched him for a while then he decided to take the spray nozzle off the bottle and happily took swigs of water out the bottle!! Made me smile :) that's for sure!!
We are listening to Graz and not making him sit with us at the table if he doesn’t want to. Well this morning during breakfast - no problem, he was happy to sit with us on his chair in front of his plate with no pressure. We dished up for him what we think he would like. This morning was scrambled egg and bacon. I had my toast on my side plate next to him, buttered it and then he attacked my toast with his spoon. Started digging at it and took a spoon here and there. Not lots but hey it was something. Didn’t take any egg or anything else. But did take sips of water.
Lunch time he also sat with us at the table with no encouraging. Just sat there and attacked the polony with a knife and cut that up into pieces. I also had a packet of nik naks near him (he likes nik naks from the past) and he took a nik nak out the packet, chewed and swallowed it. Thank you nik naks - proudly South African!!!
Fluid wise he is taking sips of water and cold drink here and there with various cups and bottles. It is extremely hot so I am sure he is SO thirsty!! It’s good to see him willingly want to take sips on his own terms though. While he sleeps in the afternoon I normally give him extra fluids (rehydrat via the tube) to hydrate him.
So his first feed was at 4pm and again he was asleep during this feed so the only feed he is actually "aware of" is the 7pm feed. The night feed via the pump I only start when he is sleeping and stops while sleeping.
This afternoon’s snack was popcorn. After 6pm I normally sit with my mother in law and father in law on the balcony overlooking the sea and we have our supper or a snack watching the sun go down while Jason watches tv in the lounge. Anyway we put a bowl of popcorn on the table for Jason by the tv with his drinks. After about 15 minutes while we were enjoying a drink and our popcorn Jason walked outside and groaned and handed me back the bowl of popcorn!!! This is obviously his way of saying "if you think I am going to eat this, you are mad!" Oh my little man is so stubborn just like his mommy!!
His health and moods haven’t changed, he is 100% happy and healthy as if nothing is wrong. He must be getting hungry, 12 hours without food is a long time but he has staying power!!
Otherwise we are enjoying our holiday with granny and grandpa. Lots of swimming at the beach, in the pool, going for walks. We are getting some relaxation time in as well. It is fantastic to have the help of my mother in law and father in law, they have really been fantastic and a huge pillar of strength and encouragement. It’s so nice not to have to feed Jason via the tube every 3 hours - that stress gone is fantastic!!! Jason is having a ball on holiday, thoroughly enjoying swimming every day and enjoying going to the beach and playing with all the kids in the tidal pool.
Oh my little man, he is so gorgeous. He is absolutely amazing, knows EVERYTHING what is going on, understands EVERYTHING but just cannot communicate! That will come with eating though and that won’t be long either! It’s just a case of when will he give in??? In my opinion it’s going to be a while LOL.
