Shame our little man has had a rough two weeks. So much for a lovely school holiday break and some quality mommy son time together. School closed on Friday the 30th September and on Sunday we noticed that above Jason's lip it was all swollen and red. At first we thought that maybe he had been stung by something on Saturday because he was helping dad in the garden. It was bothering him and was sore if we touched it. On Monday morning it was worse and when Bruce touched it blood and puss came out of both his nostrils. It was quite unusual. I took him to Dr P our paed because we had no idea what it was and were worried that is may be something serious. I am glad that I did take him. When Dr P examined him he said that it seems like some sort of infection and also his left inner ear was inflamed and red and he had a temperature of 38. Anyway Dr. P said that he needed an antibiotic to clear the infection as well as some nasal cream for the swelling.
The swelling took a few days to come down and he wasn't himself that week. Unfortunately we missed speech therapy and occupational therapy. Then on Saturday last week he woke up coughing totally out of the blue. He hadn't been around any sick people and he had been on antibiotics for a week. I started nebbing him on Saturday to clear his chest and nose. He also started with temperatures again. By Sunday he was worse, the fevers were worse and he was starting to shake and almost looked like he was dehydrating despite getting all his fluids in. I phoned the paed and he instructed me what to get from the pharmacy. We were worried that we may need to admit for a drip and iv antibiotics but we decided to wait it out and see if he got any better. So Bruce and I have been nebbing Jason for a week now. His nose was very snotty and poor thing couldn't breathe through his nose, had to breathe out his mouth. He did manage to return to school but wasn't himself. He was very weak and lethargic and quiet and quiet for Jason is strange. By Friday he was so much better I was able to stop the medication for his chest which was also adding to the drowsyness. And today he is chesty again. Very wheezy and coughing. We just can't seem to get rid of it. Seems to be lingering. Now Bruce and myself are sick as well so maybe we passed it back onto Jason. Poor nunu.
Tuesday we are in hospital for polygam so at least Dr. P can examine him again and if he needs some physio I can ask the physio to do that while we are there to try and clear the chest. I hope it goes away soon. I don't like to medicate for too long. The weather hasn't been the greatest and whenever the weather turns chilly Jason battles.
So last week we managed occupational therapy. Ashley said that she is very proud of the things Jason is doing now. He is really coming out of his shell and managing a lot of the things that he couldn't do a few months ago. Unfortunately on Thursday he wasn't well for speech but we have been practising at home. His speech is really coming along nicely. He copies most words that we say just not as clear as the words should be but you can hear the words. Jeanette and Carol at school laughed on Thursday. They have painters painting the walls and one of the painters were banging on the walls. Jason heared the banging and started shouting "come in". Not once but a few times. Jeanette and Carol were amazed and very proud of him. His first two word sentence they have heard him say! He can say a lot of words but not too many two word sentences just yet. But to us and a lot of the people that know Jason, he has come along so well.
