Jason is back, the old Jason, the Jason that is so full of energy, so talkative in his own language, he is BACK and it's wonderful to see and hear. He had us worried in Graz!! Yesterday the first thing he grabbed when he got in the door was his fishing rod - like father, like son. He didn't put his fishing rod down for the rest of the afternoon. Even tried to ride his bicycle with the fishing rod!! He was so excited to be home, didn't know what to do first.
We have settled back into life pretty quickly. Still pretty tired after the trip home but we are feeling a lot better. Gosh the sun comes up early now. This morning Jason was up at 5:45 because of how bright it was. We thought our clock was wrong but goodness it was bright so early. In Graz you hardly see the sun and at 6:00 it's pitch black and the night noises are still going.
Jason's chest sounded much better today after nebbing him twice yesterday. I was going to take him to the doctor this morning but his lungs were CLEAR. Amazing what nebbing and a bit of physio does. Thank goodness for my nebulizer!
Eating and drinking wise we haven't had a bad day. Being so hot, after a nice walk at home Jason was pretty hot and thirsty so we just left his sports bottle lying around with water in and goodness he started taking sips and he definitely swallowed - hooray! Food wise I went to Spar and brought a huge variety of things for Jason. Sweet and savoury and left the packets in the usual spot. He spotted the flings and wanted those so I opened the packed and he took one look at the shape of them and decided nope not those so I opened the next packed of simba chips and he proceeded to put those in his mouth and chewed. Then that was him, chipmonk for the rest of the afternoon until he had had enough of them in his mouth and then had a little tanrum. I think he doesn't know what to do with them and instead of swallowing or spitting he gets all irritated and throws a little tantrum - don't need these at a kiddies party!! It took a while but eventually they all came out and he was happier after that.
I have started looking into finding Jason's therapists now. We will need a speech therapist, an occupational therapist and probably a child psychologist as well. I have one or two options but need a lot more. Obviously a referral from someone would be great so if you know of any good therapists in the Durban area, please let me know. We stay in Ballito and don't want to travel too far if possible. Either leave a comment or email me details if you can!!
I am also looking into getting a higher calorie 1.5kcal formula for Jason's day time feeds. He seems to be doing well on the Paediasure that Vicky gave us so we will either continue with the Paediasure Plus or get the Nutrini High Energy formula. We will continue with Nutrini Peptisorb at night and then have the others for the day. I am busy getting prices and nutrional information etc. They aren't cheap but they are good and will help Jason gain weight.
Oh I was so excited, I saw in the Dischem catalog that they have those finger toothbrushes that the therapist used for Jason so tomorrow I will be off to Dischem so I can continue therapy at home until I find someone. Need to get his trust and confidence up with allowing us near his mouth and in his mouth too.
Not sure how many people are going to continue to follow our website, I will have to see how the numbers go and if not too many people are following it, I will eventually change to my private blog that I have had going since Jason was 8 months old. If you are still going to follow the blog, please leave a comment. I need to see whether I will be writing to myself or actually have some interested followers. Jason's journey hasn't ended, we still have a LONG journey to go but with the help of therapists and the professor in Graz, we will get there.
