After Eva we saw the doctor who examined him and said that he was happy with Jason and hopefully we can continue with the program on Monday. He is a really nice doctor (Martin). He even asked us how we were doing and said that it’s important the parents are doing ok. He phoned the professor while we were there to discuss things. We are running out of formula again as of course we should have been on a lot less formula or none by now so they have to order for us as to keep us going. The doctor said that our letter for the airline should be emailed today and hopefully SAA will change our flights for us and hopefully waive their penalty fees. It isn’t something we planned and we cannot return to SA without even starting the program, that would be silly. So if all goes well we have two weeks to tube wean Jason. I really hope and pray that from now on we have it a little easier, that Jason starts to realize that eating is not bad and tries instead of kicking up such a fuss around food. Today he did after lots and lots of persuasion and sitting with him for hours trying to show him eating is nice, he eventually on his own took some chips and started eating them. He also took a few sips of my coke and I am 99% sure he swallowed those chips!!
Tomorrow it is Saturday but Eva would like to see Jason again and also Professor Scheer would like to see us as well. Hopefully Jason is back to his old self again, he really has been so difficult the last few days and normally he is such an easy child. Really angry and naughty. It’s tough seeing him like this we can understand he is hungry and irritable and doesn’t understand why we are not feeding him BUT he needs to learn that he isn’t a baby, he needs to do things for himself, he is a big boy and is capable of eating himself. The next few weeks are going to be tough but we are ready for this and we ARE going to go home with an eating child!!
Sorry the updates are very delayed, I update when I am able to get internet connection which is only at the hospital between therapies.
The great news is if we can get our flights extended we will be able to spend some time with Brene, Rob and Tayden. That will be great. Good friends of ours we met through the YOU magazine article. Brene and I talk every day, she has been so supportive and there for me all the time. She understands and knows what it’s like having a child that doesn’t eat and we have really become real close friends. We haven’t met each other face to face yet, but Tayden their little boy also has a feeding tube and they will be starting their tube weaning on the 11th October. Brene my friend we will be waiting for you guys here in Austria!!! If you are good I may even cook you a meal during the week but after all that teasing about your fantastic braai’s and meat back in SA you are going to have to be REALLY nice to us!!
