For those of you that don't know - when the nose is running and green, that is a sign of infection and that is when you need to start worrying. Doctors will only give antibiotics if there is a temperature, if the mucous is green and if the chest is bad.
When Jason got home from school on Friday, he had a low grade temperature of 37.5 and a very snotty nose. Friday night is when the temperatures started 38.6, 38.9. I had to put him in our room with the aircon set at 18 degrees and rub him down with vinegar water to try and get the temperature down. Because of the temperatures and green mucous, I took Jason to the doctor on Saturday. When I left his temperature was 37.1 and when I was at the doctor it had already shot to 38.6. The doctor knows Jason pretty well and knows that I know when it's time to go to the doctor or not. He has put him on antibiotics and didn't want to waste time because of the temperatures, green mucous and also he knows Jason's history with gagging. Saturday night we also battled with fevers and could not feed him 2 nights in a row now because he will just start vomiting.
Today wasn't an easy day. Jason gagged intermittently during the course of the day on and off. Temps weren't too high but the gagging was bad and we battled to give him milk. I think he had about 400mls today but quite a bit was vomited up. One minute he was running outside, next minute he was man down, gagging and vomiting. It's not nice to see, brings back so many memories of the really bad times we went through with gagging. The mucous has changed from green to clear thank goodness. I just hope that this gagging will go away with the antibiotics and not be one of the episodes that last weeks and Jason suffers, can't go to school or do anything and I can't go to work.
We will have to see how things go. As it is I have managed to put him in his cot and managed to start his milk via the pump. His temperature seems fine and he seems ok. A little restless but not too bad. Shame, I really hope he is ok. I worry that he is losing out on his milk and calories. We have just gotten his weight up to 12kgs.
On a different note, The Daily News will be doing a follow up article on Jason and our trip to Austria. I am pretty nervous about how it is going to turn out. I have answered all their questions but you just never know what the article is going to be like. I hope that the article will show the readers that although our trip wasn't that successful given the fact that Jason was so sick and still has his feeding tube, it really was SO worth going because Jason is now tasting foods, is talking more, has more energy and is a changed child because of it.
