Doing the drip is very traumatic for Jason and for myself but I always make sure that I am with him to re-assure him. He is such a strong little man, as small as he is, he is tough. We had 2 nurses, myself and the paed holding him down to do the drip. Not an easy task at all and very painful to go through. The more hospital admissions we get the worst Jason is getting and the harder the task of easily doing a drip. We did eventually manage but by the time we finished he was so worked up and was trying to pull the drip out. We had to put bandages on both hands to prevent him from pulling the drip out and had to give him a dose of dormicum to calm him down as well and also for the fact that he needed to be on a drip for 8 hours. Keeping a 3 year, 7 month old little boy attached to a drip for so long isn't an easy task. He is use to drips but normally when he is sick we are able to short line the drip and give him a break during the day but this was not possible, also when they are sick they rest more.
Anyhow we did manage to get through the day, Jason did have a nice sleep as well. I was quite surprised again when the paed listened to Jason's chest and said that he was quite wheezy again. I really thought he was coming right. The thing with Jason is we just have to keep maintaining the nebbing when he is chesty and it does come right. He does have a pump every morning as well a nasal spray but he is just prone to getting these chest infections. So we started nebbing again 4 hourly.
I also managed to see Jason's dietician that went through his feeding schedule and calculated that as long as we can manage 500mls paediasure plus during the day and 500mls nutrini peptisorb at night we are meeting all his requirements. I know a lot of people ask me and are usually concerned that Jason is only on a formula and no "food". Well the formulas he is on are special medicated formulas that you can't just buy at the shop, they are specifically for tube fed children and are basically "food in a bottle" and all his requirements are met. I have managed to get paediasure plus again through Dischem after the December shortage and we should start seeing some weight gain again. He really does well on the paediasure plus. I must say his weight I was impressed with it was 12.45kgs so he is doing well. Very tall as well.
Today we were back at school and work. WOW it is so nice to be back at work. Jason was so excited to be back at school. We walked in, all new friends because most of his little friends have moved onto the next school and he was as happy as can be. Ignored me talking to his teacher and just got on with playing and didn't even say goodbye. It makes me really happy to know how much he loves school! Work was great, is is to nice to be back. For me work is the one place that I go and totally forget about all our problems. I am there for 4 hours and in those 4 hours I get on with my work and don't even think about Jason. It's my "time out" and "holiday" away from home. Then in the afternoons I get to spend time with my little man. I have the best of both worlds which is fantastic!
Otherwise the next polygam is scheduled for the 7th February. I really want to check again with medical aid if they will allow an overnight stay instead of a day stay. It would be so much easier to start the polygam when Jason goes to sleep and we wake up and it's finished. Less traumatic but we will have to see if that is possible. I am not sure from a cost point of view if it works out more expensive?
