Little man battled a bit today, he is feeling much better but it seems the hunger is starting and he is getting frustrated. We did all the right things today, didn't force him, left food and drinks around him all the time and he just didn't want any food or drink today. Jason doesn't cry often but this afternoon he was crying quite a bit and very frustrated. I tried dipping his dummy in puree like the professor suggested and at times he would try then others outright refused. He obviously doesn't understand what is going on and why we aren't giving him formula via his tube because this is all new to him. I guess it also doesn't help that he missed a whole week of play picnics with the other kids so that probably doesn't help either.
We managed to get a day pass out of hospital. We still can't leave until the rotavirus test is done and negative. Trust our luck, the first day we can actually go out it is pouring with rain!!
At least Bruce and I had some decent food. We went out to lunch today at a little pub down the road, pretty much like a Keg. It was nice having decent food to choose from. I don't think I could have done another day of hospital food. We tried Jason with his own little plate in front of him with some of our food but he wasn't interested.
We wanted to go into town to try and find a plug for my computer but because of the rain we decided to just go to the B&B and relax and cook some supper. I don't think I have tasted such a good spaghetti bolonaise in my life!! Even if I say so myself, it was GOOD. Nice to have my own food for a change after a week. Oh and after rummaging through the drawers at the B&B to try and find a screwdriver, can you believe it, we found a South African adaptor!! We couldn't belive our luck, obviously Vanessa or Sheona or one of the other South African's had left it behind and it was thrown at the back of a drawer. Many hidden treasures in those drawers. So great to know I have my computer full time and we don't have to stress about trying to go to town now.
This afternoon unfortunately Jason and I had to leave and go back to the hospital - boo hoo. We ended up missing the bus probably by about 2 minutes so had to wait in the rain for about half an hour. Jason was the umbrella man so at least he stayed dry.
I again put a whole variety of food in front of him but he wasn't interested, just very grumpy. Then the nurse brought him a glass of "Normalute" which is basically like our rehydrate - good for him because he hasn't hadn't had anything to eat or drink the whole day. He actually tried it and took sip after sip after sip from the glass. Made mommy VERY happy of course. I did try give him some of his carrot soup but as soon as he saw the colour he knew it wasn't water. The normalute is clear as well.
I guess as he gets hungrier the better he will get with wanting to eat or drink and also play picnic should help as well.
On Monday we have the scope scheduled and it looks like it will be happening on Monday by the look of the papers on Jason's file - all in German so I am guessing here.
It's wonderful to see how many people are following our journey. Today we had 230 visits so far and that is great for a weekend!! Thanks guys for following and for all the words of encouragement via the website, facebook, emails and smses. They really help!!
