Goodness last night wasn’t fun, I checked on Jason at about 12pm and he was on fire. His temperature was 38.8. I gave him a suppository and we tried our best to sooth him and keep him comfortable. We left him in our bed to watch over him. At 2:30am again very high temperature, this time it was 40.2 so we gave him another suppository and put a wet towel on his body to cool him down. That seemed to help. Eventually he went back to sleep and I was able to start his milk again. We did manage his 400mls thank goodness but did oversleep because of the disrupted sleep.
We phoned Eva at the hospital and told her about Jason’s fevers and she said that we must go to the 4th floor and see the doctor and to phone her when we got there. We got there and phoned her and the doctors came down to see us. Two really nice doctors. They examined Jason and took blood to check for infection. They said that his throat was a little red, his one ear inflamed and he has a sinus infection as well. The blood tests confirmed that he had a viral infection, his CRP levels were high so he is now on an antibiotics. His electrolyte levels are ok so they are happy with his hydration and not worried about dehydration. The doctors here are very good and very thorough, they take blood tests to check for everything. Different from our normal blood tests. Instead of taking blood from the vein, they pin prick their finger and collect the drops. A much better, less invasive and less painful for them.
So we left with a bottle of antibiotics, missed all therapies and play picnic and now we wait and pray that Jason gets better soon so we can continue with the tube weaning.
Obviously we are very frustrated with things, it isn’t easy sitting in a foreign country, with foreign language, coming here to get Jason free of his feeding tube and we are two weeks down the line and basically haven’t even started tube weaning. We are meant to be going home on the 12th but we are going to try and see if we can get our tickets extended for an extra week to make up for lost time. We are really hoping and praying that by next week Jason is 100% and very hungry!!
We still remain positive and hopeful that we will be able to get Jason to eat. We didn’t come all this way just to sit here with a sick child. BUT everything in life happens for a reason and we have God on our side and we are sure things will start to happen in their time.
The test results for the endoscope and colonoscopy we should have in about a week’s time so hopefully something will show as to why Jason has so many problems like the chronic diarrhoea and gagging.
