Anyway enough about what Bruce and I are eating, lets tell you how today went. The day started off with the professor and about 6 other people coming in our room to meet Jason and to introduce themselves. Jason said hello to all of them with great delight. At 10:00 we met all the other parents and children on the program and all the doctors and therapists. There are 8 children in our group and it seems 6 eat certain things and it looks like Jason and another little boy are the only two that don´t eat anything.
Having decided that Jason would not have milk until after play picnic we went to play picnic at 12 - 1. Only 1 parent is allowed in the room at a time so you take turns. Today it was my turn. To our surprise Jason took well to play picnic. Did a bit of walking all over the teddy bear chips called Pom-bar Then he sat down and played with some yoghurt and dished that up with the potato creating his own little mix, then he decided that he would try a teddz bear chip, then another, then another, then another. Stuffed his mouth full of Pom-bar´s. He then found a cup of juice and threw some on the floor then decided to take a sip and washed his chips down. So he actually swallowed what he had in his mouth. So we and the therapists were quite impressed with play picnic today. One strange thing that he did during play picnic was he kept covering his ears with his hands. I am not sure if maybe the room was too loud but he has never done this before.
At 14:00 we had the psycologist come and see us. She is here to help and guide Bruce and myself when we need her and also here for Jason. She will assess Jason over the next few weeks and give us a report.
At 15:00 we had occupational therapy. It was really a getting to know the therapist and for her to meet Jason and ask lots of questions etc. But Jason took well to the therapist and played on her fancy swing hanging from the roof and played with some nutella and straw biscuits.
Jason has made a new friend, 2 doors down. A little boy called Phillip. He is just the cutest thing and everything Philip does, Jason does and everything Jason does, Philip does. Two little copy cats. Philip does eat quite a few things so hopefully he will teach Jason a few things about eating.
This afternoon Jason did have some more salty chips but these he kept in his mouth for about an hour and didn´t swallow much.
So it´s been a long day today, a full day of meeting people and therapy but a good day!!
The good news is I haven´t given Jason any clopomin medication which is for gagging and no Vallegan which is also for his gagging. This makes me VERY happy.
Sorry there aren´t any pictures, I was too scared to take my camera into play picnic because if Jason saw the camera, that would be the end of eating for him. Hopefully I can sneak a picture or two tomorrow.
Still waiting to try and get my computer up and running. Stupid me didn´t bring the european plug so our plugs don´t fit their sockets. I misunderstood Joanne and Bronwyn and thought we didn´t need these!! A big bummer.
Oh and excuse the spelling mistakes, this is a German computer, the keyboard is a little different, the y and the z are in opposite places as our keyboards so you will notice this mistake often and I can´t run a spell check because of the German.
